Will smiled at Nico in a very Will-Solace sort of way with his messy blonde hair waving in the breeze. Nico, of course, didn’t smile back, but he felt did feel something he had hadn’t felt all that often: Safety. But, most importantly, wanted. Ever since Will had searched him out a few days after the final battle, he’d been spending a lot more time with Nico than Nico would normally want to spend with someone. But because Will was Will, and Nico secretly enjoyed all the time spent with him, not to mention attention of another human being, he went along with it. If Nico was being truthful with himself, he looked forward to seeing Will; be it the morning (and Nico was really not a morning person), the middle of the day (though the weather there was controlled magically, it normally felt almost too hot at that time of day), or at night, when the stars had come out to play.

Today was almost one of those too-hot days, but the wind, paired with the fact neither of them were running or working, made it into more of a pleasant warmth that passed through Nico’s skin and into his soul.

“I have something to show you, Nico.”

“Really, now?” said Nico, the sarcasm in his words typical of the normally-gloomy son of Hades. “Because I thought we were just wandering aimlessly for the past twenty minutes.”

“Thought you’d catch that. I’d hoped that I’d looked athletic enough to you that you’d think we really were wandering aimlessly, but that might have been a little far-fetched.”

Nico smiled, a small smile, not a big one, which was a rare occasion nonetheless, and raised an eyebrow. “Oh sure, you’re athletic enough. But you already know that I’m not one to expend much more energy than I have to, and if you really intended on wasting some of it doing nothing, I would’ve been pretty angry.”

“And then what would you do? Summon skeletons to kill me?” Will was walking backwards now, so he could face Nico while talking, and shook one of his fingers accusingly. “Remember, no using any of that Hades stuff anymore. I’d rather not lose you to the shadows, as you almost did a few weeks ago.”

“Sometimes I think the shadows are better than anything here for me. At least, I did.

“And then you stepped outside, right?”

Nico wasn’t entirely sure where this metaphor had come from, or where it was going, but he figured it could apply to a lot of things.

    “Sure. You could say that.”

Will turned so that his back was to Nico, but he slowed down a bit so that they were walking side by side. They walked in silence for a few minutes, but it wasn’t the awkward or lonely silence that Nico was used to. There was something actually pleasant about this silence, as if simply their presence was enough to make each other happy. Sometimes a lot more could be said without words than with, and Nico had grown fond of silence. But not the old silence, the new one. The silence Will had given him. The peace.

“We’re almost there,” Will said, stepping to the edge of the forest. “Just a little through the forest, and then we’ll be there. I promise you’ll be surprised.”

“I wouldn’t count on that. I’m not exactly one to surprise easily, considering that I partially saved the world a few weeks ago.”

“Hey, I did too, and you’ve seen how jumpy I can be.”

Nico tried not to grin when he remembered yesterday night, when Will had been sitting by the campfire alone and Nico had slipped in around the shadows and startled him. Will’s expression had been priceless. Nico had more than a little wished he had got it on tape, but also knew it would have been different filmed. Things are never the same after they’ve happen. The first time is normally the best.

“Most people are jumpy around me.”

Will looked over at him, and almost bumped into a tree. Nico stuck out an arm and pushed him back, feeling his fingers burn afterwards where he had touched Will’s chest. Nico wondered if it was a son of Apollo thing, or if maybe he was just going insane. Or... something else....

Will stopped moving, probably as so not to bump into anything else if he tried to walk and look at Nico at the same time. Confidently, he reached out a hand between them.

Nico looked at the hand, a little startled. Was it for him? There wasn’t anyone else here, that he knew of, but still. People we’re supposed to do that. He needed space. And people were normally much more than willing to do so.

“I shouldn’t be ‘most people’ to you, got it? From now on, I’m an exception.”

Nico felt his cheeks get a little hot, which hadn’t happened to him a long time. A long, long, long, time.

“I... suppose.” Nico looked at the hand again, and Will raised an eyebrow.

“You going to take it? It’s getting cold waiting here.”

Nico took one last look at Will’s face, his outstretched hand, his own hand, and then back at Will’s face.

Slowly, but surely, the son of Hades, whose life had been filled with pain, suffering, and death, reached his hand out and took Will’s. It was an unusual bond between them. Not many could have guessed that the two could ever have become so close, especially because of their contrasting appearances and personalities, but none could deny it. As Will and Nico walked through the forest, hand in hand, towards their semi-known destination, neither could ever argue that it may have been the greatest moment in both of their existence.

Nico felt his hand get a little sweaty in Will’s warm one but pointedly didn’t say anything about it. If he didn’t say anything, maybe his brain wouldn’t process what was going on. Nico thought it would be better that way, because if he did know what was going on he’d probably blush. Blushing was bad.
Will held back branches now and then to keep them from whipping into Nico, and Nico couldn’t help but think if it was anyone else they won’t have cared enough to both bother and realized it was happening. Getting scratched by branches was the least of Nico’s worries, but he still felt like something in him was warming up slowly. Simply the act of caring was enough, often times. Especially for one so not used to being cared for. Nico had become someone who pushed away what he needed most, and didn’t let people care for him. Now, though....
The bubbling of a creek reached Nico’s ears and he had a mix of happiness and dread now circling his system. He didn’t have good memories by this creek. He remembered passing it after he learned Bianca had died, and countless days spent hidden in the shadows there crying in hope the stream would blot out the sound. But Will was here, he reassured himself. Maybe it was time to move on from the old memories and make some new ones.
Will stopped after passing around one last tree, and Nico found himself watching the creek  sliding over stones in a continuous race. Light green grass outlined the creek bank for a full five feet before the tree line, and a rock a little bigger than a seat was plunked down peacefully near the water. The sun reached the ground through the breach in the leafs of armor, and seemed to pet both the grass and small fussy moss growing on the rock.
Will inhaled deeply and became more relaxed. His hand became limp in Nico’s, and Nico released it, stepping out from behind him and standing next to him.
“Where...” Nico took another glance around. “Where are we?”
Will spoke no words, but instead walked over the rock and sat down on top, patting a spot next to him. There was something almost magical about the sound of the water, the softness of the grass, and peculiar, but flattering, light, and Nico found himself relaxing as well. This part of the creek was not a part Nico had seen. It was prettier. Nicer. And definitely tear-free.
Nico sat down next to the son of Apollo and, before he could stop himself, smiled at him slightly. This place....
Will sighed and looked over at Nico. Will seemed reluctant to break the silence, but he knew Nico probably had a lot of questions that needed answering.
“This is the place I go to to be alone.”
The words sounded like poetry coming from Will’s mouth, and Nico remained silent. He just wanted to listen Will talk, to speak with his soft and red lips, to create words out of the pliable peace of the bubbling creek and paused trees.
“Some times I feel lonely and sad and... well, you know. I’m sure you know more than a lot of people.” Will tentatively reached out his hand and took Nico’s, squeezing it softly. “Anyway... whenever I felt like that I’d walk out here. I’ve always loved it here. I could think about my problems without having to stare them straight in the face at the same time, and come up with better solutions to things that’d normally stress me out.”
It was Nico’s turn to squeeze Will’s hand, and Nico nodded encouragingly. Nico felt Will was saying things he’d told no other living, or nonliving, soul, and it was not Nico’s place to disturb that.
“I found it some time ago during capture the flag. I got separated from the group and was feeling hopelessly lost and... a light glow came from the trees. A golden wolf stepped out from between these two pines and looked at me with warm, melting eyes. It radiated warmth and light and protection, and when it turned away I followed it. In a trance I walked all the way to this place, when it disappeared while lapping up some water from the creek.” Will paused, catching his breath. “At the time the place looked like nothing special, since it was night time, but the next time I returned during the day I knew it was a gift from my dad. I’ve never met my dad. He’s never given anything to me. But somehow I felt this was his gift to me. Not the place so much as peace. He gave me peace, and that’s a lot more than most parents can afford their kids.”
Nico continued looking a Will. He couldn’t draw his eyes away, even though he knew that Will was done talking. Will just looked so light, so angelic, so perfect. He had a sleepy peace on his face that threatened to overcome Nico, and it was all Nico could do to nod.
“How... how many people have you told this to?” Nico said finally after a minute had passed.
“Just you.”
Nico felt his heart leap, the same why it had when Will had taken his hand. And whenever Will said he missed him. Will had control over Nico’s heart in a way people weren’t supposed to, but Nico wasn’t about to deny it. This... love, you could call it, was something better than he had ever felt before. Better than Percy. That had been a silly, ignorant crush, after all. Nico was long since over that. But Will....
“I...” Nico trailed off, and forced his eyes off of Will. He stared at the baby grass popping up from the soft earth and tried to calm his erratic heartbeat.
“Nico.”
“What?”
“I think...”
Will stopped and retracted his hand from Nico’s. Nico’s hand felt cold, now, but Nico didn’t dare voice his disappointment. He was supposed to be the moody, hands-off guy, after all.
“I have....”
Will trailed off again. Nico dared to look back up at his face, and couldn’t help but smile at Will’s cute expression of concentration. Before Will could help it, he smiled back. Will suddenly noticed what he was doing and covered his eyes with his hands.
“Ahhh, see? You do this to me. If you smile I can’t help but smile. When you held my hand... I can’t... I don’t even know if you like guys... but... ahhhhhhhhhh.”
Nico decided that Will was cute when he was frustrated, and even more cute when he was confessing to Nico.
Nico leaned in slowly, before realizing what he was doing.
And it was pretty much the best kiss on top of a rock of all time.
Edit: Since DuckEmpress was my 300th watcher, I said I'd write a PJ fanfic of her choice, and she told me to finish this because she wanted to know where they went. So here you go! An ending! Does anyone get the last line? XD I practically copied it word for word from The Last Olympian ;) Also, I don't know why it spaced out the top and not the new part, so I'm trying to fix that... trying.

AHHHHH I FINISHED BLOOD OF OLYMPUS... I swear, I wrote this about five minutes after finishing the book. I couldn't deal with my emotions, so I write something between Will and Nico. The ending, though... I promise I won't spoil! But for all of those who have finished, NOTE ME. Pleeeaaassseeeeee. So I don't have to die alone XD
I'm also super proud of myself. This is the first thing I've written that was about a same sex couple! Though, I'm not sure they're really a couple yet...
