Wow, this is such a long time coming. I'm so sorry... At least I sent over tons of WIPs to prove I wasn't slacking off that much. :dummy:
I started coloring these lines back May 3rd or 4th when Sorcaron commissioned me, so, yeah, it's been a while, thanks to all those clothing folds and a sudden want to be perfectionistic. I didn't think it'd take me so long, considering how quickly I finished those other coloring projects, but I guess this is what happens when I try too hard.
The funny this is, since I started this so long ago, when I came back to it (I didn't work on it during dead week and finals) my style/skill level had changed slightly, so I was a bit scared to start working on it again. Luckily, it turns out my style didn't change that much, so I was good with just slapping on some highlights. Giggle
I'm also planning to make a progress GIF version with all those WIP and a more printable black and white version (Edit: here you go). Those'll probably be linked here if when they happen, so we'll see. ;D
You'd think I'd have more to say after all that time, but I guess I don't have as much to say as I though I would. I'll just wrap it up with a short list:
  • I don't know how to color flowers. At all.
  • I used way too many textures... uh...
  • I got quite lazy on the left sleeve (her left). Oops.
  • The saturation in my program is lower than when it is on my screen (for whatever stupid reason) so I toned the saturation down slightly before submitting. It might look weird on your screen, so sorry in advance.
  • I used an overlay gradient layer or two on her/everything, so that was some interesting exprimientaion.
  • It probably would've been a good idea to look up some tutorials or something before doing the clothing folds, but I didn't. :ohnoes: And since I *apparently* don't draw clothing folds, I didn't really have any prior experience.
  • I don't know how to do glasses lenses? Help? Please?
  • Some of the shading's a bit questionable.
  • Most of the highlights are also questionable.
  • Now I better go credit all those tons of textures I used. Stare At least I can find them all more or less easily...

Thank you so much! I mean, I spent so much time trying to get them right, so... And I know the folds aren't even that accurate, but oh well. Hopefully I'll get them with time.

Book reference. :giggle:
Yeah, two years... I started 9th grade, pretty much. And those drawings were awful (as you have undoubtedly seen, since you favorited this.) I doubt that, unless you limited yourself to stick figures. O.o I think the reason I've improved so much is just the sheer amount of drawing I've done and that I don't limit myself. Sometimes I think I should, though. Wouldn't that be so much easier? Thank you so much!

WHAT BOOK?! (that is the really important part ;-) because either I've forgotten a book reference, which is entirely possible, or I have just gotten what might be a book recommendation (always welcome, law texts are not the sort of things you choose to read if you can help it (by the way, as a quick update, I study law, which is both wildly fascinating and soul-crushingly dull at the same time :D ).
MAAAAAaaaaaaan I wish I had your perserveriance, because I can see the progress you've made and it is epic. My writing could really do with that :-) (I write poems because they are easy (well, hard to mess up really) but what I really want to write and struggle with is wanting to write some fiction, kicking around a new/old idea that mashes together a few of the stories I've dreamed up over the years into one that might actually work, and explores a few interesting things, its just finding the time and energy to write them (GOLEMS (think robots but magical) that gain life because of an unknown reason in the middle of a war where two empires use massive forces of Golems to fight each other, I'm hoping to have it become a story of how one of the golems becomes a hero and bla bla bla... (also no plot spoilers ;-) ) )). Yeah self limitation is a major factor in this sort of thing. I know very well that I limit myself too much, like I could do a lot better at just about everything if I took the time to do it all right (DAMN IT LIFE WHY YOU MAKE ME AWARE OF THESE THINGS, now I have to try (badly) to fix them). Trust me, limiting yourself is only a good idea if you over-reach and put yourself in a bad place (I know a few students who go too far with their gifts, it gets them into very stressful places).

IT is literally always a pleasure to appreciate your gifts (well anybodies gifts, but right now that anybody would be you :-) ) I just stumbled across your works because you liked one of mine that Firefox shared :-) little things like that line up all sorts of cool blessings :-)

Just remember if you can't be bothered reading the above:
YOU ARE AN AWESOME PERSON
and you actually do have my respect :-)

It's from The Lunar Chronicles, which by now you have probably been able to deduce I am entirely obsessed with. :dummy: You should read it! Probably more grabbing than law texts. >.> (Really? Yeah, that sounds accurate. Not that I know anything about law/studying law...)
Thank you! I'm not all that perseverance on most things; I just enjoy writing/drawing enough that it's always been a choice I'm happy to make. (Poems are not necessarily easier! Just different. I, personally, am quite inadequate at poetry, but it varies from person to person. If you want to try fiction, definitely start with some short stories! They're easier to finish and good to start with. Novels come later. If I'm being honest with myself, I should not be writing novels yet. :giggle: There is no 'right' way of doing it, just a way of doing it. As long as your way is your own, then it's right. I'm sure over-reaching can be a problem, but I've never reached enough, so I think I'll be okay!)

Thank you so much! Haha, really? I love her features~ Yeah, for sure! I've met so many people for small, mundane reasons. Makes you wonder how many people you're not meeting.

THANK YOU. YOU ARE AWESOME TOO. Of course I read all the above. ;D
Your respect means a lot!

WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT?! WHY IN THE WORLD HAD NOBODY EVER TOLD ME ABOUT THESE BOOKS?! THEY SOUND SO PERFECT (SCI-FI FAIRY TALES, BUT DYSTOPIAN. GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH I WILL READ THEM ALL. POSSIBLY BUY THEM TOO). *cough cough* *regathers decorum for the sake of appearances*

You've obviously perservered abouta few things, and that is actually really important you know :-) being able to push yourself to do something even when you don't feel like it (something I have rather a problem with, curse my intelligence and lack of wisdom ;-) ). I find poetry easier because it is about finding perfect words to describe emotion, rather than trying to create a narrative construct for a longer construction. Though I have finally figured out some parts of the short stories I want to write, and how I want to start evolving my own little world :-) (I build worlds and characters very easily, same with story ideas, it is just putting flesh on the story bones that stops me short).

You say you shouldn't be writing novels yet, which implies you are writing one?

It is really nice to be featured a little, I don't get it often, but I don't write as often as I should either :-) I need to actually sit down and write more (both for pleasure and for study). You meet a lot of people in a place like this, its the people you reach out to, or the people who reach out to you, and to me that is itself interesting :-) (I like people who reach out to me, or accept the incoming reaching from me :-) (I'm something like 2% extroverted, so I do peopleing weird sometimes ;-) ). There would have to be a lot of people we aren't meeting; there are a lot of devients on this site, maybe fate or some sort of crazy destiny brings people here together for some arcane design? There is probably a story about an AI in that somewhere ;-) ).

Thanks :-) I can rather tell that you did somehow ;-) its that or I just hallucinated an entire paragraph in which case I have even more problems ;-) and I am glad it does mean something :glomp: (if you are wondering :glomp: is the only non-standard emoticon I can remember off the top of my head, which makes it easier to use both on my phone and when typing up stuff like this, so I use it quite often)

OH MY FREAKIN' STARS ABOVE. CAN YOU JUST COLOR EVERYTHING FOR ME NOW?
la in love la in love la in love la in love la in love Llama Emoji-03 (Sparkles) [V1]

I'm glad you decided not to show me the last few steps. This looks spectacular~
  • The first pronoun in your description that refers to a person that is not you is rather vague. :lmao:
  • I'm glad that you have LEVELED UP during the time you were working on this.
  • We both suck at flowers, but the glow/colors/gradient/highlights all together make them look pretty~
  • The glow and the lowered saturation together make the right sleeve look much more natural.
  • Current saturation looks fine. That's odd (and quite unfortunate) about the saturation being lower in FA. o___o;; Can you tell a difference if you screenshot it? I would say maybe it's the way it's saving the file, but idk.
  • You didn't fix the too-sharpness of the bottom-(our) right half of the shirt. :noes: Granted, I did say if you're working on more shading.
  • Anyways, I LOVE the extra glow. It nicely softens out the sharp glow you had previously on the clothing, adds visual interest, and unifies the piece. *making up words*
  • I like the vertical and horizontal wood grains on the stairs.
  • I would lower the opacity on the glasses. Bit too much white to be transparent like normal glass er, plastic.
  • I thought the DB logo thing was kinda cool, but do you think it looks rather awkward just floating there? :B At least you made it brown/lighter...
  • Saying this again—are you going to put your own sig on there? I mean, you put in wayyy more time into this than I did. o3o
Dang, it's not showing up anymore, but for a while, every time I clicked on this, your first full drawing with your new tablet would show up in the top left box of the "More from Porsheee" section. Just wanted to comment on how they're both DB and how much you've improved since then. :la:

I hope that's all I had to say. Because I already said so much before. :faint:

AJNJKDJKAFKHADHAKJJKCFADKNKDN THERE WOULD BE SO MANY PROBLEMS WITH THAT THOUGH

Yeah, it changed a lot I think. :la: *Jumps around because your excitement makes me excited*
  • That's one of the side effects of writing this out twice, because in some places I remembered it word for word and other places I didn't. Make more sense now? I think I've fainted.
  • Me too! :yay: Though, I'm not really sure how much I did. Mostly just lighting or something.
  • Gotta cover 'em up, yes. Glad they look nice now~
  • Oh, good. Yes, most definitely. It's created problems for quite a few of my drawings, though it's true I don't always notice. That's a good idea! Yes, it does look different in a screen shot. O.o I'd say maybe it's also the brightness? Hmmmmmmmmmmmm. Or... wow, that's strange. Maybe it has to do with size?
  • Right. I may have forgotten about that...
  • Thank you! Yes, I do think it's probably the biggest changed since the last WIP I sent you. :la: Those words seems pretty real to me. XD
  • Fun stuff, fun stuff~ Just a texture thing, of course.
  • Hm, okay. I think they're at 10% right now? Not sure? But it may take some work to change it, because instead of putting the layer above the line art (too much work to make it perfectly line up with the frame Giggle ) I just erased the line art at the same opacity as the lens layer. Not that it'd be that hard to fix.
  • It looked fine to me until you said that. I think it's cool, but I can give you a version without signatures or anything if you want.
  • My sig is so ugly, though... and wherever I try to put it it looks out of place. *sigh*
Stars, yes, the improvement is crazy. Though, to be fair, this line art is yours.

Why would you have to say more? You didn't have to do anything. It's fun doing things for you, though, because I'm used to people having one or two sentence responses to gifts/commissions/art trade/whatever.

I'm wondering when this picture would come up, though. What if Liz got a professional photo for whatever reason, and then she gives it to Lance when she goes away and HE CAN LOOK AT IT AND HOLD IT AND- *cough* Getting a bit carried away. Right.

THAT WAS A RHETORICAL QUESTION.

Quite enough to be significant. :eager: *it's infectious*
  • Oh right, I forget that you had to do that. Must be a pain. :noes: Speaking of the long description, when I got the Mention for this, I was like, 'Oh. Is this how Porsheee and NightmareSiren feel when I tag them in my drawings? XD;;'
  • Hmm, yes I suppose so. Your shading is now less generic than it was a couple months ago. Anatomical correctness of lighting has also improved? idk.
  • It looks different in a screenshot. I'm not sure if that's a good or bad thing. Probably bad. ^^; / Maybe, idk. My file sizes always turn out kinda huge. :faint:
  • Oh well.
  • It's the most immediately noticeable change. O. Dats troo.
  • Not sure what you did; I'm wondering why you couldn't put it under the lineart?? idk.
  • Oh, I don't mind. I mean I put it there. I was just wondering if it looked really out of place.
  • I see you put it on Tumblr. :P

I was talking about the coloring. :woohoo:

'Had to say' as in 'how many words do I possess and need to communicate to you,' not 'had to say' as in 'I gots to make the loooooonnggest comment ever!!1'
But yeah, anyways, I hate that. 'Oh it's great! Thx.' 'Thank you!' 'Okaybye.'

New words to say:

  • Currently using this as my iPad home screen wallpaper. It's very pink compared to MiB. (I'd used Alek for like 2.5 years before switching it to MiB.)
  • Related to that, I also discoverd that iOS 7 and later automatically dims your bg for you because of it's thin, white words theme. :shakefist:
  • I think you can do better on the glasses, so I'm not going to reblog this on Tumblr until you fix it. :P (It's not like it's time-sensitive or anything.)
  • Related to that, can I have the PSD file? I will pay you more if you want. =3=

When he goes away? WE'RE GETTING A LITTLE TOO SAPPY HERE. Anyways, *thinks about the timeline* I guess that does technically work since I think the plan is,
(8th): Lance teaches at HPMS; Liz is a 4th yr at Cal
(9-11th): Lance keeps teaching at HPMS; Liz goes to grad school at UCSD, then gets a job in SD? They get engaged at some point.
(end of/after 11th): They get married and Lance moves to SD

But, they could have like an engagement photo shoot!!! (People do that right?) With one of their friends. Because of course they have friends who do professional photography on the side. :lmao: I did want to draw a matching picture for Lance since this one was so pretty~
*imagines drawing more pictures from their 'photo shoot'* :awe: *cringes at the thought of all dem wrinkles* Oh bother. ^^;

OK. I have been waiting to properly sit down and write a comment about this because HOLY COW. You did SUCH a phenomenal job coloring this!!! You created such a WONDERFUL mood with the lighting and colors and oh my GOSH. For never having drawn wrinkles before this turned out AMAZING and even though you said that you weren't as proud about her left arm I didn't notice anything until you said so. Even then it works because theoretically there wouldn't be as much lighting showing on that arm anyways so the colors wouldn't be as drastic. The flowers look GREAT, the textures aren't overwhelming at all and overall this turned out VERY professional looking!! Great work!!
